Local Info

Killorglin is located in the very south west of Ireland,in the County of Kerry, known as the Kingdom.

Killorglin is situated in the geographical heart of Kerry, straddles the river laune.

Killorglin is not too far from any place in the county. There is easy access to Tralee to the North, Killarney to the east, through Castlemaine to West Kerry, and it is the gateway southward to the Iveragh Peninsula, which stretches out into the Atlantic Ocean. This is the setting for Ireland’s greatest tour, The Ring of Kerry. The 110 mile circuit takes in Killorglin, Glenbeigh, Caherciveen, Waterville, Sneem, Kenmare, and Killarney.

Besides Puck Fair, Killorglin is best known for its numerous lakes for fishing, also there is river and sea fishing at Ballykissane Pier, and like nearly every town in Kerry there are a number of Golf courses close by including Beaufort, Dunloe, Dooks and of course Killorglin itself.

Killorglin is home to the legendary Puck Fair. For as long as can be remembered, the fair has been enacted in Killorglin on August 10th, 11th, and 12th. For at least 400 years a puck goat has been crowned King and enthroned for the three days.
Over the days know as Gathering, Fair and Scattering day the town is turned into a maelstrom of activity with horse, cattle dealing, dancing, singing, bartering, and bargaining, and drinking until the small hours.
